Bagley Families,

We’ve made it through, what many Seattleites describe as the longest month of the year! Please take a look at our great events coming up in February.

Playground gate features updated

I wanted to share an update on removal of our push bar system on the playground gate. The bar was removed after a set of safety issues for a small cluster of students on our playground. This prevents young children from leaving the playground and walking onto a main road. We have had a pending work order in place for several months and are glad that the playground is more secure during the school day for these students. The district has reviewed and supported us in updating all of our safety procedures with this change.

If you stay afterschool to play on the playground BGC has committed to helping us keep our gate propped until families are asked to leave at 3:30 each afternoon. After that time the playground is closed to the community. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Lotería Night and PTA General Meeting this Friday, 2/2

Come join us for a fun night of Lotería, a game similar to Bingo that uses pictures labeled in Spanish! Snacks and prizes will be available. The fun starts at 6:00pm in the cafeteria, with the option for adults to join the PTA General Meeting in the library at 6:30pm, or continue playing Lotería with their student(s) until the event ends at 7:30pm.

We are still in need of a few volunteers for this event – first, we need a “cantor,” or caller, to help lead our game! Ideally this would be an individual who is comfortable speaking in both English and Spanish. We are also looking for volunteers to help pass out game materials, distribute prizes and snacks, and assist students as needed during the game. Able to help, or have questions? Contact Janna Reynoso at vicepresident@danielbagleypta.org.

Bee Yourself Night and Book Fair

Join us for a celebration of the many cultural backgrounds represented in our school community at our Bee Yourself Cultural Heritage Event on February 15 from 5:30-7:30 pm! Please come and share a bit about your cultural heritage with our students and families!

Sign up to host a table, bring a traditional dish or treat to share, connect us with a performance group, and/or help with set-up and clean-up. If you would like to host a table and/or contribute food items but cost or supplies are a barrier, we can help! Please reach out to Angela at amclement@seattleschools.org.

The Phinney Books Book Fair at Bagley is coming soon! Want to sponsor a new book for a child who might not otherwise be able to afford one? Please donate for the book fair via SchoolPay. Any amount helps; new books average $15 and we’d like to support up to 40 kids. Thanks for considering!

Shop the book fair at the Bagley library on Thursday, February 15th from 2:25-3:00 and during the Bee Yourself event from 5:30-7:30. Bagley receives 25% of sales in credit at Phinney Books for our school library!

Girls on the Run

We will have a Girls on the Run site at Bagley again this Spring for 3-5th graders and we would love to have your child who identifies as a girl join in the fun! Girls on the Run website for more information and to sign up.

Practices will be at Bagley on the playground track on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-4 pm starting on March 26th. Sign up as soon as possible as we have limited spots and it is first come-first served. The Girls on the Run season costs $25-260 per participant. Partial and full scholarships are available.
