Bagley Families,

We are grateful for our recent opportunities to learn more about families in our community. I wanted to extend a big thank you to our Accessible Education department for planning our recent Family Night. The event gave our families of students receiving special education services time to connect and partner on our goals of an inclusive and accessible education for every student. Another great event coming up this Thursday is Bee Yourself Night, to celebrate student and family identity.

Bee Yourself Night, Thursday 2/15 from 5:30-7:30 PM.

At this event families can share parts of their culture, including cooking a traditional food or sharing a special craft. Our choir will be leading us in song and we’ve created a Mystery Message Scavenger Hunt for our students to solve, while looking at special projects about their identities throughout the school. Phinney Books will also host a Book Fair in our library. Many families have signed up for Bee Yourself Night and we looking forward to learning more about our community and their identities on Thursday.

PTA’s Annual Direct Giv Campaign is Jan. 29-Feb. 16th

So far we’ve raised $27,208 of our $46,500 goal. Wow! Thank you so much for your generosity. This fundraiser is critical to the PTA’s ability to continue to support our students at Daniel Bagley Elementary in an impactful way.

Advanced Learning

This past week about 20% of our students at Bagley were notified that they qualify or continue to qualify for advanced learning in math or reading or math and reading.

Our building believes in consistently offering challenge opportunities to all students, regardless of designation.  We use a variety of differentiated material and projects in classrooms to achieve this goal. We have outlined our overview of Advanced Learning supports at Bagley on our website if you’d like to read more.

Family Input on Handwriting (to support suggestions for SPS via University of WA OT dept)

Research shows that handwriting is an important part of student learning and helps with reading skills.  The Seattle Public Schools Occupational Therapy (OT) Department in partnership with University of Washington OT students are asking for family input on handwriting at school.  Results from this survey will be used to make suggestions to Seattle Public Schools so students can get more support with handwriting at school. Please reach out to Sharon Groves with any questions. spgroves@seattleschools.org
